At a press conference on March 10, 2011 in the 23rd High School "Frederic Joliot-Curie" (Sofia) was launched the First National Olypmpics in Healthy Eating. It is organized by www.olimpiada.zdraveya.com, with the support of Ministry of Education and Science and Sofia Munucipality. It was attended by students aged 9-11 years from over 120 schools in the country. there were three educational hours about "Food Pyramid", "Proper Nutrition" and "What's in the food"". After conducting classes, knowledge of children will be tested via online questionnaires on the site of the Olympics: www.olimpiada.zdraveya.com. On 1 June, the International Children's Day, winners will be launched.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Ms. Milena Damyanova who made a presentation about identified measures by the state to build healthy habits of adolescents. The mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, illustrate food culture of students in metropolitan schools. Dr. Maria Rusinova, a specialist in nutrition and dietetics, Director of Development for infant feeding with human milk bank in Sofia, spoke about healthy eating for children in Bulgaria. A special guest of the event was Uti Bachvarov who prepare a healthy lunch for the children. During the opening the children were acquainted with the site: www.olimpiada.zdraveya.com. On it they can get additional tips for a balanced and healthy diet, and to find exciting games and entertainment.
Partners of the campaign are Euro-Tok Bulgaria - an organization that for five years has worked actively for the successful development of the Bulgarian culinary potential. The Olympics is realized with the decisive help of Vereya and Argeta and with the assistance of Medix, Devin and Philips.
For the final of the Olympics are assured attractive prizes. The winner class will be rewarded with a DJ party of Argeta pates. There are provided also individual gifts for the three best performing students: first prize is a portable DVD player; for the two runners-up there are music player and headphones. These awarads are a courtesy of the major sponsor of the campaign: Philips Bulgaria. The school with the highest number of points will be attended personally by Uti Bachvarov who will cook with the children.
